Pride + Prejudice + Zombies

As we saw in class, Jane Austen's classic love story Pride and Prejudice has been taken and re-imaged into a new novel, now film. Having been out of copyright for quite some time, Jane Austen's story and her characters were up for grabs and available for interpretation. 

I'm not sure if the public were expecting an undead twist, however.

The novel and film have received some push back from some variations of Jane Austen fans, complaining about ruining the original story. Even in class, we discussed how some future audiences may believe that the original story of Pride and Prejudice actually included zombies.

I'm not sure that's true, and I think that is a bit pessimistic.

I have found when I encountered remix culture, I frequently loop back to investigate, and try to understand where the original images/song/novel differs from the variation. Why should this be any different?

I don't know about you, but I definitely want to see this film! (Not such a Jane Austen fan, but maybe throwing in some zombies will change my mind.)
